Little Brother by Cory Doctorow is our December Book Club Book. Have you ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time? That is exactly what happens to Marcus Yallow and his pals when they skip school and using clues they found online, play some Harajuku Fun Madness. When the San Francisco Bay Bridge gets bombed by terrorists Marcus and his friends get rounded up by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They are imprisoned for days, questioned, threatened and mistreated before being released. As the DHS imposes more and more regulations in the name of security and safety, Marcus decides to fight back against the government. Hacking!!! With the help of other kids he figures out a way to fight back and try to defend the Bill of Rights. This was a great read which made me think about how much freedom we give up in the name of safety and security.

Absolutely a very excellent book. I recommend Little Brother to everyone in the library and at any other Book Club here in Brownsville. I can honestly say that this book’s main character(Marcus) is somewhat like me in a way of computers and video games.(This was one of the reasons why I enjoyed it.) To be frank about, I wished that i was an ingenious hacker, too!

The book was scary. What happens if our government starts going over the limit because of terrorists? And I think our govt. is heading soon into that direction. Though overall really good book and just like Devin I too wish I was an “ingenious hacker”!

It was good. Funny, intriguing, believable … I liked it. It was a little cliché, maybe. And some of the scenes were a bit … awkward. But over all, pretty good. Kinda reminded me of Scott Westerfeld’s So Yesterday. Definitely some Westerfeld influence in this book, only it was more PG-13 rated. Ahem.
